#NOFILTER: Fractured Identities & Digital Masks
The “#NoFilter” series is established as a pictorial and critical revision of the portrait genre, dissecting identity in the age of social media through abstract figurative paintings. It is intentionally confined to the vertical format of Instagram Stories, an ephemeral frame that acts as the canvas for contemporary self-representation. Through a more colorful, playful, and vibrant visual language, the series uses a ‘cute’ aesthetic to address a darker psychological reality.
Filters, appearances, and digital masks become the raw material for these original portraits, revealing the tension between the image that is projected and internal complexity: a façade that begins to crack. “#NoFilter,” currently a highly limited production run, is a key piece within César Goce’s original body of work: a series that reclaims the figurative art essence of his early career, confronting it with the disruption inherent in his current language and themes related to life duality. It invites the viewer to confront the truth hidden behind the pixelated perfection.
